Error resolved - November 25th -

As I finished my work through another computer I managed to finish my menu, need to place background music, but finished transitions from menu one to menu 2. I encountered a problem in which I may have gone off on my own quest to please my own need where I had not stuck with the genre I was going for, Shock Thriller. If I have time to change anything I will go back and do so, if not I will explain everything in my evaluation.

Below is a screen grab of my finished flow chart where you place one menu to the next leading back to the main menu.

With my 'copyright notice' (Below)I had it set as a timeline to play for six seconds before it comes through to the main menu.

I have included a few screenshots of my menu, main, extras and my easter egg. I will explain where I will change stuff, how I will change stuff and why I will.

Andy - Week 3

Guide for new photoshop users:

In this assignment I am looking at how I use photoshop for various things and explaining how I use them to people that are not familiar with photoshop.

I  will be researching and stating the differences between .BMP, .PSD, .JPG, .TIF & .GIF also the differences between 'raster and vector'. Also i will explain the differences between an image on screen to that image printed out on paper through different colour formats such as, RGB, CMYK, GREYSCALE, HUE & SATURATION.  I will be explaining the different ways to capture images through scanners, memory cards and cameras also the different resolutions that should be used to display captured images on the internet.

RESEARCH TOWARDS FINAL PIECE;

Harrys Lesson - Week 3

Today in Harrys lesson I looked at 3 things I will be putting into my blog. The first thing I will put into my blog is;
Progression, I put this because I can keep track on where I am going wrong or where I can improve. The second thing I had put is;
Knowledge, Simply because I can get abit confused with photoshop and softwares I am not familiar with therefore I will be updating everything I learn from photoshop. The last thing I have put in is ;
Research, I put this to keep myself up to date with what i am doing and where i am at.

Also today in Harrys lesson I wrote down three things i had learnt from Photoshop tutorial. I have learnt a few things that I did not know about before hand, three of these would be. Different colour formats for different save files or print styles. The amount of save formats there are for saving different sizes or graphics. Finally I learnt how to set up a new page for my movie poster, this tutorial has helped me alot  it has given me more of an understanding for the Photoshop software which has given me a lot more confidence towards it.

The last topic I looked at was, 3 things to consider for our own film poster. There were three points to look at;

Iconography; iconography is for text and signs, what you will find on film posters i.e a horror film poster the text would be dark and moody like red and black.

Colour & Composition: There are always three different colours for any genre of film, the colours for a horror would be red, black & white. It makes sense as the film is going to be dark the colours to the poster should be the same. If it were a sci-fi like 'tron' the colours would be bright blue with a dark and almost electric feel to the background.

Simons lesson;

This is my finished movie poster that I had finished in Simons lesson, I had the banner through the middle with the title so that I can have two screenshots on one poster. I went for this look simply because I wanted to go for a cheap sleazy film style.

Week 7 - DVD Menu layout through Photoshop.

This is my main menu which i have set up through Photoshop so that I can transfer it through to Encore when I have finished all of my other transitions. In the main menu I have all of the normal text options, play, extras, options and scenes. What i have set out for my 'rollover' button is the text to appear when the text is selected, so no text is there to begin with but when you hover over a text it will appear. I have done the same with the 'easter egg' seeing as though easter eggs are supposed to be hidden I thought that I should use the same style for it, except you have to go through all of the text options first.

I have changed quite abit since my annotation and sketches but kept the layout the same, also I have set it out through a 'artistic' set out. I got this idea from the film 'A scanner darkly' I liked how it was a very serious film but was set out through a kind of 'cartoonised' fashion.

This is my 'scene select' transition where I will use my animation. I am going to have the strip of film negative to fly in from the right and onto the scenes pictures.

At the bottom right of the shot is a red text 'HOME' which will return you to the main menu I have done the same styled 'rollover button' for this page and all of the others, including the home button.

With the scene select page I have added my animation, which is the film reel flying in from off screen and placing itself into the screenshots.

This is a screen grab of the animation in process, notice it coming in from off screen. I will have to make it flow in adobe encore, I am going to save my main menu as two seperate files. one being a PSD and one being a rendered movie file, when I import it I will be able to create a timeline and import my movie file into it which will create the animation which I will play through.

Week 5/6 Harry, Andy and Simon

Within these weeks I have been sketching up ideas for a DVD menu design and annotating them, this is to describe what I am aiming for with the menu. I would sketch out an idea and then describe everything I have done to it I.E if I had put a title I would explain that I would only want that title on the opening menu transition and it would not be on every slide.

This is my annotation for my first DVD menu slide. I have annotated everything on the page from the title to the easter egg. I have changed a few things but kept the layout the same, I am still using the easter egg which i have set out as a PLAYBOY magazine.

With andy I had to create a slideshow presentation about my DVD menu, what the inspiration was, what I will be using in the menu. I explained everything I wanted to put in even if I had'nt put it in but I wanted all of my planning to go into the presentation.

This is a screenshot of my PowerPoint presentation, I had placed images of other menus I had looked at and taken ideas from without copying what I liked. I would explain everything on screen for my audience but I would have notes to explain to my audience in an 'in-depth' kind of way.

'With these DVD menus I liked how they were dark and gritty but still showed signs of being a thriller, the extensive use of colouring and an old battered look for a background. '
Taken from my slideshow cards a quotes I used for the slide in the screenshot.

Week 4/5

This week I started to think about my DVD menu, what genre I wanted and how i wanted to lay it all out. First of all I looked through a software called 'Adobe Encore' which is what I will be using for my final DVD menu. I looked at previous examples of other students' menus and from that I knew how far i could or could not go with the effects of the menu, so I had to keep it simple.

I had to pick a genre I would use for my menu I was also told to go away from the genres I enjoy watching and try something new as I would learn from genres I am not into, but I stuck with thriller as I believe that this genre would be the most exciting to use for a menu as you can do many things with effects i.e gunshots, explosions and mysterious settings like an old noir themed film.

As I knew my genre I knew how I would set my moodboard out which was very similar to the moodboard i had created for my movie poster. There are themes of neo noir, action, violence and shock in my moodboard which is what i wanted to aim at, a shock thriller.

Andys lesson - Week 1 -

DVD menus:
The past week we have been annotating dvd menus, looking at how the transitions are different, how the rollover buttons may have a simple dot next to the text or if it highlights the text and themes to a genre i.e a comedy would have a funny background tune or quotes from the film where as an action may be more serious. We were given a handout to note down different dvd menus from different genres and to annotate differences and similarities between genres.
Over the next few days i will be summarising my notes as a plan and then writing up everything i have up onto computer with my plans.

Harrys lesson - Week 1 -

Film posters:

We have been looking at movie posters and annotating them, how the poster will give away the genre of the film, main characters and tones within the poster.

After annotating the handout movie poster examples we have to design and sketch our own ideas and eventually getting them up onto photoshop and creating the final piece.
